The Profile in Detail

Solid Hardwood

Milled from solid boards, not veneer over a core. Sand it, refinish it, and it is still the same wood underneath.

Tongue & Groove

Blind-nailed through the tongue — no visible fasteners, no filling. Boards register to each other for a flat, even face.

Matches Tambour

The same slat profile as the flexible tambour panel, so a curved bar front and the flat wall behind it read as one surface.

Five Species

Poplar for paint, Maple and Red Oak for clear finishes, White Oak and Walnut for the room that gets the budget.

Step by Step

1

Acclimate

Stack flat in the room for 48–72 hours. Solid wood moves; let it move before it is nailed down.

2

Furring or Direct

Fasten to furring strips on masonry or uneven walls, or direct to studs on a flat frame wall.

3

Blind-Nail the Tongue

Set the first board level and face-nail it. Every board after is nailed at an angle through the tongue, hidden by the next groove.

4

Leave Expansion Room

Hold 1/4″ off the floor, ceiling, and corners. Cover with base and crown.

5

Finish

Sand lightly, then stain and clear-coat, or prime and paint (Poplar).
